We started out showing on the Lummi Island art tour out of “Ruby” the Volkswagen van. We love sharing the artwork and talking to Island visitors.
A few years later, we transformed the first floor of the guest house into a permanent art gallery and social space.
5% Spurred by Leslie's inspiration, over a summer of weekends Paul created the mosaic wall featured in the gallery. In the first picture, at 5% complete, you can see the rough sketch of the tree form. That rough sketch is as much planning as happened. As the mosaic and the background tile was placed, the exact shape of each piece was improvised, cut, and fit on a diamond tile saw.
The tree and leaves are tile left by the previous owner, leftover from renovation projects, picked up at garage sales, or purchased at the REStore.
